Linear...thats what I am about lately. I have thought a lot about my life and where I want it to go, straight down my path to oneness...Oneness, there is chance of question..."Is that a word?" the answer is YES...

ONENESS

3. sameness; identity.
4. unity of thought, feeling, belief, aim, etc.; agreement; concord.
5. a strong feeling of closeness or affinity; union

I have decided, the only way to be known, for me anyway, is to be remembered and thought of as an individual. UNIQUE. LINEAR. IDENTITY. Some of you may notice the change in signature from Kori Ellien to Kori Rosebud. KORI ROSEBUD is who I have always been, who I need to be. Until I come to a point where I feel the need to recreate identity, all my paintings will be signed in this way.

I would like to thank you for viewing my blog. It is a peak in to my world, my life, myself.

Transistion may be frieghtening to some but I am welcoming this new phase in my life with open arms. Everything must change, it is inevitable. Changing for the better is what it is all about. Mistakes are meant to happen so I have no regrets. "Serenity" is the title due to the fact that it has been quite some time since I have felt that way. Peaceful, serene, calm, collected. Life...its like that...dark and light filled with currents of change. I think this definition from Dictionary.com says it all...

VORTEX

"On the Shore" Original $100

I am still in beach mode. I bought a beautiful sea shell for my little girl so that she can hear the ocean anytime she wants. It was sitting there, on the beach, beside me and it was so perfect. I started thinking, "Why can't everything be so perfect?" Then it hit me...everything is, you just have to find the famous diamond in the rough. Affirmations are amazing tools. In my quest to find myself on the beautiful waters of Mexico, I found more meaning to life than I had ever known previous. I now know that if I want it, I can have it. No matter how great the struggle is to achieve, there is the finish, the completion to look forward to. Thus, I am turning over the page and leaping into the next chapter in my life. May the Spirit bless and inspire me so that I may continue to paint and express myself through them. I hope you enjoy this painting as much as I do. It is truely special.

My oldest daughter, Audreay, six years old and to big for her britches :), asked me to paint a monarch butterfly. Admittedly, this was a little hard to do. I found that if you do not get the markings on the wings right, it doesn't look like a monarch. My daughter, approves of the finished painting, and I must say, so do I. :)

Someone once told me, "You must paint. It does not matter if it is light or dark. It only matters that you do it. It is a part of you." Taking that very wise piece of advice, I put it all out. Do you ever feel so calm and collected that you are ready for anything? I have been so busy lately and yet, this rush of calm came over me. These flowers were so beautiful. Sitting there in the floral section of my local grocery store, I couldn't turn away. I bought them, got them home and set them on my kitchen table. So still and alive. I had to paint them. So here you go, the result of my calm demeanor. This took a surprisingly long time to paint. I feel accomplished, finishing this :)

I want to be like this Mallard. Cruising along, weightless on the water, not a care in the world. I am so pleased to add this to my portfolio. I have been working on my water reflections and I have to say, it is paying off :) Here in Northern California the migrating birds are coming back. The snow is melting and the ponds are exposed. As I commute from work to home, I see them playing. It is amazing to see them exposed in mass, frolicking if you will, in the waters we would call "icy". Awesome insultation those beautiful feathers provide. Majestic animals aren't they?

Adult Mallard

Surrounded by these beautiful graceful animals, I have always been intrigued by them. I never could bring myself to paint one, to many failed attempts left me timid. I thought to myself, "Self, you know you can do it...so what if the others look like a blob of feathers...try it again!". Taking my own advice, eliminating my internal "editor", I took my pencil, and performed my first bird of flight masterpiece! AHHH...the feeling of accomplishment cannot be surpassed. I think I am finding that I work better on a larger scale. Kudos to all those beautiful flying animals that have inspired me to paint this...pray that the powers that be keep my paint flowing :)

I love the movement in this painting. I don't know how this one came to be...I was at a loss as to what to paint. Armed with graphite, I took to paper and this appeared. Once painted I find it had much more substance than in black and white alone. This is painted in watercolor and gouache and measures 11"x 14"

The more I paint these bold ladies, the more of them I want to paint. I can't help but think that they are an expression of myself. I have been reading about color and their meanings. Notice how there is a cohesive color palette in each of the paintings. This painting, if the color meaning is correct, depicts a piece of me that is yearning for communication, working toward comfort with unconditional love....I don't know, it does describe me. People have many petals. This is one of mine. It amazes me how much of my inner being is expressed in my work.

This one is my favorite of all of them. The colors blend seamlessly and she portrays a sort of innocence. Using the theory of color meaning, this painting expresses my current quest; learning wisdom through intuition and will.

This is a typical Belly dance pose. As these paintings have shown to be a window to my soul, this woman is very close to me. I am a very soft-hearted person with a lot to give. I belly dance and paint to relieve stress and keep my wits about me. The purple and pink in this painting are very strong colors. To me, they signify a femininity that only a kind woman can exude.

This is the first in my nude series. This woman is modest and exposed at the same time. She is aware of her body and is not afraid to have it seen. This picture was inspired by a friend of mine. In casual conversation it was suggested that my next painting be a cityscape in the evening. Being a country girl, I had to Google pictures of cities at night and I came across a photo of Chicago. It was so beautiful! The colors were amazing! Thanks Tuna!

This painting was completed on Jan. 16, 2008. It is watercolor and gouache. 9 in. x 12 in. (I will do another cityscape soon, only next time, it will be much bigger :)
